Halloween Flash Photography Workshop

Interested in learning how to use your flash on the street? Want to know what TTL (Through The Lens) Metering, Manual, or Auto Mode mean? Why so many photographers choose off camera flash? How to sync your flash with your camera?

Join the Founder of the NYC Street Photography Collective and Executive Director of Contact Photo, Jorge Garcia for a 2 day workshop in flash photography and how to apply flash photography on the street to change the mood and make your photographs more dynamic.

In this class we will cover:

  • The technical jargon from flash and camera manufacturers.

  • The difference between the various flash modes available.

  • What is a Guide Number and how to calculate distance.

  • How to sync your flash to your camera for off camera flash action.

  • Practice on fellow workshop participants before hitting the street and learn to direct your flash burst.

Schedule:

  • Sunday October 29th 12pm - 3pm:
    Students will meet Jorge’s loft in East Harlem for a lecture and demonstration. Students will then have the opportunity to practice off camera flash on fellow classmates. Coffee and snacks will be provided.

  • Tuesday October 31st 6pm - 10pm:
    Students will meet in the West Village to photograph in and around the Halloween Parade. We will then end the workshop at a local bar to celebrate your new found skills with drinks :)

What you’ll need: Camera and a flash (any flash will do). Preferably an understanding of basic camera functions such as shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

Tuition: $299 with a max of 10 Students.
Minimum 50% enrollment is required to conduct the class. Class and schedule are subject to change.
