Instructors needed for a variety of photo classes in East Williamsburg
Contact Photo is currently seeking experienced photography educators for on and offsite photography classes for the 2023/24 calendar year.
Educators will work closely with Contact Photo’s Director to develop photography classes that help promote the understanding of contemporary fine art photography. Classes will range from an intro to the camera and basic rules of composition to more advanced theories and philosophies.
The goal of this program is to serve as a bridge between the self taught photographers and academia. List of topics we are seeking to teach include but are not limited to:
- Fine art photography and its history
- Understanding exposure
- Flash Photography
- Working with ambient light
- Documentary Photography and working close with subjects
- Ethics
- Digital workflows and file management (I.e. Lightroom, Photoshop, Capture One, Processing scans from negatives, etc)
- How to tell a story using the medium of photography
- How to work with editors on shooting assignments
- Sequencing
- Book or zine design using InDesign
- PrintingClasses or lectures will be held in the evenings or weekends.
Pre-class duties include:
+ Creating outlines, lesson plans, and modifying them according to feedback
+ Setting up classroom and managing supplies
+ Ordering art materials and adhering to a supply budget
+ Cleaning up projects and space
+ Taking and sharing photos of students and programs
+ Attending trainings and professional development
Qualifications include:
+ 2+ Years of teaching or instructing photo-related courses
+ Knowledge of photographic techniques and photo history/theory
+ Experience writing lesson plans and integrating feedback
Compensation:A stipend of $100 will be provided to each educator to develop lesson plans per class. Hourly rates will range from $50 - $100 based on student enrollment and duration of class.

Contact Photo has spring, summer, and fall internship as well as volunteering opportunities. Interested Applicants must have a passion for photography and interest in working with nonprofits.
Support is needed in preparing exhibitions, events, assisting lab technicians with film processing, photo editing, maintaining digital lab, and a variety of administrative tasks.
Ideal candidates would have most (or all) of the following abilities:
Writing and researching skills
Familiarity with Photoshop, Microsoft Word, and Excel
Experience with Imacon scanner and FlexColor
Comfortable shooting and editing photo and video
Experience in gallery, museum, and/or clerical settings encouraged
Knowledge of Spanish a plus
We are looking for individuals who can commit 4-8 hours a week. Internships are unpaid. A lunch/travel stipend is available.
