Hit the Streets with Jorge Garcia! An introductory class in the art of street photography.


Explore the art of capturing authentic moments in everyday life with our Intro to Street Photography class. Learn essential techniques for composing compelling street scenes, mastering light and shadow, and capturing spontaneous moments with confidence. Whether you're new to photography or looking to refine your skills, this class offers practical insights and hands-on experience to help you develop your unique street photography style.

Join the Founder of the NYC Street Photography Collective and Executive Director of Contact Photo, Jorge Garcia for a 2 day workshop on the streets of NYC.

In this class we will cover:

  • Mastering the technical aspects of using your camera for street photography.

  • Differentiating between Street and Documentary photography and exploring their intersections.

  • A comprehensive presentation on the rich history of Street Photography.

  • Exploring various styles of street photography for inspiration.

  • Discussing ethics and strategies to minimize and manage confrontations.

  • Engaging in hands-on practice sessions to enhance your skills and build confidence. Plus, much more!

Schedule:

  • Saturday July 6th, 12pm - 6pm:
    Students will meet Jorge’s loft in East Harlem for a lecture. Students will then have hit the streets for an opportunity to practice. Coffee and snacks will be provided.

  • Sunday July 7th, 12pm - 6pm:
    Students will meet in the City to photograph. We will then end the workshop at a local bar to celebrate your new found skills with drinks :)

What you’ll need: Film or Digital Camera with a fixed wide lens. Preferably an understanding of basic camera functions such as shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

Tuition: $299 with a max of 8 Students.
Minimum 4 student enrollment is required to conduct the class. Class and schedule are subject to change.

  • Dates and times subject to change. Contact Photo and NYC-SPC reserve the right to cancel or postpone classes. Students will receive a refund or credit towards future class.

    Class Rescheduling: In the event of a necessary rescheduling, participants will be notified promptly, and information about the new dates will be provided. Participants will have the option to attend the rescheduled class or receive a refund or credit towards a future class.

    Participant Withdrawal: If a participant needs to withdraw from the workshop for personal reasons, the following refund policy applies:

    More than 30 days before the workshop begins: 100% refund.

    Between 29 and 8 days before the workshop begins: 50% refund.

    Within 7 days of the workshop: NO refund.
