Contact Photo is pleased to present 2022 NYC-SPC Summer Resident Exhibition, 14 Portraits of New York, by Anya Broido from June 16 to July 17, 2022.

Broido's photographic work orbits themes of urbanity and the street: providing an entry into the different subcultures and nightlife. Her street wanderings often lead to chance encounters with strangers and in this series, she explores more intimately their private lives. In Broido's images, her subjects extend themselves with openness and lead the viewer into a world they might never have known.

Broido explores and questions the duality of our personal and public personas and seeks to understand how we have recovered from a time when we were all asked to stay inside. As a newcomer to New York, Broido's photographs not only set out to reveal stories of the people who make up this city but form part of her own cultural mapping, acting as a guide to the city's collective identity, and stating her own mark within its territories.
