Contact Photo is please to announce Matthew Phipps’ solo exhibition, Everyday is Babylon, a series of photographs captured during Phipps' extensive travels spanning over the past decade.
Reflecting on the essence of his work, Phipps shares, "Our ever-changing world is a tapestry woven with intricate threads of complex situations and emotions. Within it, we encounter tremendous joy juxtaposed with incredible suffering. As I traverse the streets of the world, I remain keenly observant, awaiting moments that encapsulate the essence of human existence—the fleeting smile on a face, the subtle gesture of a hand, the nuanced movements that signify elation or tribulation in life. Each day unfolds as someone's best day, yet simultaneously serves as the worst for another. We navigate through the ebb and flow of time, experiencing the spectrum of human emotions—joy, sadness, happiness, strength, and weakness. It is this profound contrast that defines the human experience, shaping the essence of this body of work."
"Everyday is Babylon" offers viewers a poignant exploration of the human condition, inviting them to delve into the intricate layers of emotion and experience captured through Phipps' lens. This exhibition serves as a testament to the profound depth and diversity of the human experience, resonating with audiences on a deeply personal level.
